Created as part of a course on understanding product manufacturing and construction, this cutlery set was sand-cast in both brass and aluminium, and then hand buffed and polished. The course aimed at developing a broader understanding of the limitations and benefits of different manufacturing processes.

The process of sand casting was studied intensely, both theoretically and practically, and its limitations and benefits were better understood. The assignment called for the creation of a cutlery set through the process, a task that proved to be far harder than first imagined.
